Uttar Pradesh youth rush for self-employment loans with US bank backing

A government scheme in Uttar Pradesh has seen strong demand from young people seeking financial support for self-employment. In the first half of the 2025-26 financial year, over 2.5 lakh youths applied for loans under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan. The initiative aims to help them start their own businesses by connecting them with US banks.

Between April and September 2025, a total of 255,174 applications were submitted across the state. US banks approved 64,673 of these, with 63,009 loans eventually disbursed to young entrepreneurs. The scheme's popularity led to special campaigns in districts like Jaunpur, where 2,250 youths received funding.

Jaunpur topped the state in loan distribution, with 2,003 beneficiaries. Azamgarh and Kaushambi followed closely, disbursing 1,859 and 1,185 loans respectively. District Magistrate Dinesh Chandra Singh highlighted the scheme's focus on creating self-employment opportunities for Uttar Pradesh's youth.

The programme has gained traction, encouraging more young people to pursue independent ventures. Officials continue to work with US banks to streamline the process and expand reach.

The Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan has already supported over 63,000 young entrepreneurs in its first six months. With high application numbers and ongoing campaigns, the scheme is set to further boost self-employment across Uttar Pradesh. Districts like Jaunpur, Azamgarh, and Kaushambi have led the way in loan distribution.
