Freedom has joined Microsoft for Startups to accelerate the development of its retirement platform. The company aims to transform how people engage with their pensions by offering a modern, banking-style experience. Its white-labelled system will allow real-time access to pension funds through a Visa card.
The UK pensions industry is under growing pressure to improve retirement engagement. An ageing population has made it harder for providers to maintain connections with members. Freedom’s Retirement-as-a-Service model seeks to solve this by creating integrated experiences tied directly to pension providers.
The platform includes a Visa card usable both in the UK and abroad. This prevents retirement balances from being moved to external banks. Alltrust has already signed on as the first client, with further discussions underway with other providers.
Through the Microsoft collaboration, Freedom gains access to AI tools, Azure credits, and a global customer network. David Brown, the company’s founder, stated that Microsoft’s cloud and AI capabilities will help scale the platform. They will also deepen its banking and payments integration. The partnership with Microsoft for Startups will help Freedom build and scale its platform faster. The Visa card and integrated system aim to keep members engaged with their pensions throughout retirement. The first client, Alltrust, marks the beginning of the platform’s rollout.
