BCE slashes 700 jobs in push for $1.5B cost savings by 2028
BCE Inc. is cutting nearly 700 jobs, affecting around one per cent of its total workforce. The reductions come as the company pushes forward with a major transformation plan. Most eligible unionized employees are being offered voluntary separation packages. The job cuts were reported by The Canadian Press on 15 June 2026. They stem from Bell’s migration of customers to a more resilient fibre network. This shift has led to operational changes within the company.
The reductions include approximately 230 unionized roles. In November 2025, BCE had already cut 650 manager positions at Bell and around 40 jobs at its Bell Media subsidiary. The latest moves are part of a broader effort to streamline operations.
BCE aims to achieve $1.5 billion in total cost savings by 2028. The company is pursuing these savings through companywide transformation and ongoing operating efficiencies. The latest job cuts form part of BCE’s long-term strategy to reduce costs. The company continues to adjust its workforce as it modernises its network. Voluntary separation packages are being provided to eligible unionized staff.
