Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Strengthen Economic Ties at Tashkent Forum

Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov attended the fifth Tashkent Investment Forum to push for stronger regional ties. The event brought together over 10,000 participants from 102 countries to discuss economic opportunities. Bektenov met Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to explore ways of deepening cooperation between the two nations. During the forum, Bektenov stressed the importance of closer collaboration across Central Asia. He highlighted trade and economic partnerships as key areas for growth. Both leaders praised the relationship between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan as a model of trust and shared goals.

Trade between the two countries has grown rapidly. In 2025, bilateral trade rose by 16.2%, hitting $4.8 billion. The first four months of the year saw an even sharper increase of 42.1%, with trade reaching $1.9 billion.

Kazakhstan has taken steps to attract more investment. A new Investment Policy Concept through 2030 strengthens protections for investors. The country also introduced the Altyn Visa, a special regime to simplify entry for investors and highly skilled professionals. The discussions in Tashkent focused on expanding trade, improving connectivity, and boosting regional economic growth. Kazakhstan’s new policies aim to create a more attractive environment for investors. The Altyn Visa and updated investment framework are expected to support these efforts.
