Adani Green Energy outlines India's bold 2035 electrification roadmap in London

Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy, recently addressed the inaugural Adani Green Electrification Dialogue in London. The event focused on accelerating electrification, funding challenges, and India’s role in global energy transitions. Organised with the Energy Transitions Commission and the London Science Museum, it brought together key stakeholders in the sector. During the dialogue, Sagar Adani emphasised the urgent need for energy security, affordability, and sustainability. These priorities come as global geopolitical tensions add pressure to energy systems worldwide.

India’s electricity demand reached approximately 10,000 Terawatt-hours in 2024. To meet future needs, the country plans to add nearly 2,000 gigawatts of new energy capacity over the next 20 years. This expansion aims to balance cost-effectiveness with cleaner energy sources.

Adani Group, India’s largest private energy operator, has set ambitious targets. By 2030, it intends to develop 50GW of renewable energy capacity. By 2035, it plans to add 10GW of nuclear capacity. The group’s energy portfolio already covers thermal, renewable, nuclear, storage, transmission, and green hydrogen sectors.

Chairman Gautam Adani has pledged over $100 billion to support India’s energy transition. This investment aligns with the group’s broader strategy to expand and modernise its energy infrastructure. The dialogue highlighted India’s growing influence in shaping global energy roadmaps. Adani Group’s commitments and targets reflect its role in driving the country’s shift towards sustainable and secure energy. The discussions in London underscored the importance of collaboration and investment in meeting future energy demands.
