Getnet Launches AI-Powered Payments for Merchant Transactions

Getnet, Santander’s global merchant payments platform, has introduced new AI-powered capabilities for merchants. These allow businesses to accept payments initiated by AI agents. The move follows a growing trend where AI assistants now handle transactions on behalf of users. The new infrastructure enables merchants to automatically process payments from their own AI agents or those operating through conversational platforms. It removes the need for complex integrations and includes robust identification and authentication mechanisms for security. Mastercard’s Agent Pay platform supports this by ensuring secure, authenticated, and verified intent for agent-initiated payments.

Getnet and Mastercard have already tested the solution in Mexico and Latin America. The trial involved Mastercard Agent Pay and an AI agent developed by Mexican startup Neivor. The system is built on open standards, making it interoperable, secure, and compatible with various protocols.

Initially, the solution is available to businesses with their own AI agents. Getnet plans to expand access to smaller businesses and SMEs without dedicated AI infrastructure. The company is also collaborating with industry leaders to promote open standards for Agentic Commerce. The new capabilities support a more open commerce model, allowing AI to be securely integrated into the payment process. Getnet’s initiative ensures partners like Mastercard can innovate with confidence. The solution is expected to streamline transactions while maintaining high security standards.
