Uttar Pradesh races to expand piped gas access under Yogi Adityanath's clean energy push

Uttar Pradesh is rapidly expanding its Piped Natural Gas (PNG) network under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The initiative aims to promote clean energy and improve urban living conditions across the state. As of 24 June 2026, over 160,000 domestic connections have already been issued. The state government has set an ambitious target of 1,623,163 PNG connections for the financial year 2026-27. So far, 9.86% of this goal has been accomplished. Companies such as IOC-Adani Gas, Torrent Gas, Green Gas Limited, GAIL Gas, GAIL India, IGL, and HPCL are actively involved in expanding the pipeline infrastructure.

Several districts are accelerating their efforts to provide more households with access to piped gas. The system ensures an uninterrupted supply and includes modern safety mechanisms to detect and address leaks promptly. Regular reviews and monitoring are in place to keep the project on schedule. The expansion of PNG connections is expected to reduce carbon emissions and enhance air quality in urban areas. The government also plans to extend the network to new cities and residential colonies. This push towards natural gas aligns with the state’s commitment to safer, cleaner, and more convenient energy solutions.
