CDP Splits Into Two to Meet Soaring Demand for Climate Data
CDP is preparing for a major structural change by splitting into two separate organisations. The move addresses rising demand for reliable climate and nature data from businesses, investors, regulators, and financial institutions. The split will create a commercial CDP entity and the CDP Foundation. The commercial arm will continue running the world’s largest environmental disclosure system, offering data products and insights to companies and financial institutions. Its 2026 disclosure cycle and existing services will remain unchanged during the transition.
The CDP Foundation will focus on translating environmental science into practical disclosure methods. It will also identify new indicators tied to planetary health, going beyond current market standards. As a shareholder in CDP, the Foundation will have board representation to ensure scientific priorities stay aligned with the commercial platform.
Global investment firm Permira will back the commercial CDP, marking its first investment under its Energy Transition strategy. The funding will support growth in staff, technology, and product development to handle complex data more efficiently and reduce duplication. Sherry Madera, Chief Executive Officer of CDP, called the change a transformative moment for the organisation. The new structure aims to better serve global markets while advancing science-led disclosure. Both entities will work to meet the increasing need for trusted environmental data.
