Mexican Editor Faces Homophobic Slurs at Work—No Action Taken

Víctor Santana, deputy editorial manager of Tierra Adentro, has accused a colleague at Fondo de Cultura Económica (FCE) of homophobic aggression. The incident occurred during a workplace dispute in a Telegram group chat on 18 June. Santana reported the matter to leadership, but no disciplinary action followed. The dispute involved a female colleague who used homophobic language. She referred to 'those types' and called Santana a 'crazy woman'. Santana reported the remarks to FCE director Paco Ignacio Taibo II, who acknowledged the comments were unacceptable but did not confirm any disciplinary measures.

Since the incident, Santana has been removed from two FCE work chats. An in-person meeting was later proposed to 'make peace', which Santana views as revictimisation. No official communication from FCE leadership has been received regarding the case. The colleague’s homophobic slurs were acknowledged as unacceptable by FCE leadership. However, Santana remains without formal resolution or disciplinary action against the colleague. He has also been excluded from internal communication channels.
