Coinbase merges crypto and traditional assets in bold platform expansion

Coinbase has expanded its platform with a range of new financial products. The latest update allows customers to trade traditional assets alongside cryptocurrencies for the first time. The company now offers stocks, ETFs, and indexes in addition to its existing crypto services. The exchange introduced tokenized stocks, each backed one-for-one by real shares. Dividends from these shares are passed directly to holders. Customers can also transfer existing stock portfolios from other brokerages into their Coinbase accounts.

Traders now have access to options on both equities and crypto. The platform also provides perpetual futures tied to thematic baskets, including AI, defence, and Chinese equities. For early-stage investments, pre-IPO perpetuals are available.

Coinbase has launched an SEC-registered AI advisor to assist users with investment decisions. Automated trading agents are also part of the new offerings. Beyond trading, the company has rolled out consumer products like a USDC-backed credit card, Bitcoin travel rewards, and loans secured against staked Solana. The updates mark a significant expansion for Coinbase. Users can now manage a broader range of assets within a single platform. These changes reflect the company’s push into both traditional and innovative financial services.
