A recent analysis by VTB My Investments has examined the investment habits of nearly 1 million clients under 30. The study reveals that young investors in Russia are taking a structured approach to building their portfolios. Their strategies prioritise stability and long-term planning over high-risk speculation. The average portfolio size for Gen Z investors stands at 279,000 rubles. Bonds dominate their holdings, accounting for 46% of the total. Mutual fund shares follow, making up 30% of the average portfolio.
Stocks represent 18% of their investments, while money market exchange-traded funds take up 22%. Cash and precious metals contribute a smaller share at 6%. Andrei Yatskov, head of VTB’s brokerage department, noted that these young investors enter the market with clear financial strategies.
Predictable returns and risk control are their top priorities. Additionally, over 7% of all clients use AI-powered advisory tools, with this number rising among under-30 investors. The findings show a generation focused on steady growth and careful management. Bonds and mutual funds form the backbone of their portfolios. AI tools are also gaining traction as a resource for decision-making among younger clients.
