Deutsche Bahn names new CFO after months of leadership turmoil

Deutsche Bahn has appointed a new finance chief after months without a permanent CFO. Michael Obrowski will take over the role in early September. The decision follows a period of instability at the company’s headquarters. The supervisory board selected Michael Obrowski to lead the finance division. His appointment begins on 1 September 2023. He replaces Karin Dohm, who left unexpectedly after only four months in the job.

Dohm’s short time as CFO was marked by disputes with other executives over minor matters. Her departure caused considerable disruption within Deutsche Bahn. Obrowski currently holds the CFO position at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

Before this, he worked as head of corporate controlling at Volkswagen AG from 2017 to 2021. His experience in financial management at Volkswagen is expected to bring stability to Deutsche Bahn’s leadership team. The CFO role had remained empty for several months before this appointment. Obrowski’s arrival is set to fill the gap and restore order to the finance department. His tenure at Deutsche Bahn will officially start at the beginning of September.
