Yakutsk Offers Free Public Transport to Municipal Street Cleaners
Yakutsk has introduced free public transport for its municipal street cleaners. The decision comes as part of broader efforts to improve conditions for these workers. Mayor Yevgeny Grigoryev announced the measure to support their daily tasks. In 2021, Yakutsk brought street cleaning back under municipal control. This shift aimed to raise wages and enhance social benefits for the workers. Outsourced services had previously failed to meet expectations.
The reinstatement also introduced stricter performance standards. Now, 106 full-time maintenance workers employed by district and suburban local governments qualify for free transport. The benefit applies only to the workers themselves, not their families.
Access to the free service will be managed through a special 'Resident of Yakutia Card' issued by Almazergienbank. The initiative is designed to ease the daily commute of street cleaners and help them perform their duties more effectively. The free transport scheme is now in place for eligible workers. It reflects Yakutsk’s commitment to improving conditions for its municipal street cleaners. The move follows earlier reforms that increased pay and strengthened standards for the role.
