Lidl Austria orders 42 more electric trucks to slash logistics emissions

Lidl Austria has taken a major step towards its 2050 net-zero emissions target. The company has ordered 42 more Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks to expand its green logistics fleet. These new vehicles will support its goal of cutting carbon emissions across operations. The first Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks have been operating at Lidl Austria’s logistics centre in Laakirchen since mid-August. Electric trucks have been part of daily deliveries since 2024, all powered by renewable energy. The company has already received 14 of these battery-electric models.

A framework agreement now secures 42 additional trucks, with delivery expected by mid-2027. The first 20 of these will be used for nationwide store deliveries before the end of that year. CEO Michael Kunz recently presented the new vehicles and charging infrastructure to Austrian officials.

Lidl Austria is also constructing Austria’s most powerful pure truck-charging network for grocery retail. This infrastructure will support the growing fleet of electric trucks as part of the Schwarz Group’s broader climate strategy. The new order strengthens Lidl Austria’s push for sustainable transport. The expanded electric fleet and charging network will help reduce emissions in its logistics operations. All new trucks will run on renewable energy, aligning with the company’s long-term climate goals.
