Russia Introduces Tax-Free Employer Support for New Parents
New tax rules now apply to financial support given by employers for childbirth or adoption. This assistance can be exempt from taxation under specific conditions. The change aims to clarify how such payments are treated under the law. The exemption applies only if the total assistance does not exceed 1 million rubles. Employers can provide this support without tax consequences, even if multiple companies contribute to the same employee. However, any sum above this limit becomes taxable as personal income.
The assistance must also be given within the first year of the child’s life. This timeframe ensures the support aligns with the immediate needs of new parents or adoptive families. The rules set a clear cap of 1 million rubles for tax-free assistance. Amounts beyond this are subject to personal income tax. Employers and employees must ensure payments meet the timing and limit requirements to qualify for the exemption.
