Yakutia's resource giants pump billions into housing, schools and roads

Major resource companies in Yakutia have ramped up investments in local infrastructure and social projects over the past five years. ALROSA alone contributed over 17.6 billion rubles to the region's institutions, enterprises, and municipalities between 2021 and 2025. Meanwhile, other key firms have launched housing, education, and transport initiatives across the republic.

Since 2021, six large companies—ALROSA, Polyus, Surgutneftegas, Gazprom, Rosneft, and Yakutskenergo—have regularly reported their social and economic projects to Yakutia's Il Tumen. Their combined efforts span housing, education, and infrastructure development.

Polus Aldan JSC is expanding housing in the Aldan District, having finished two apartment blocks and currently building three more with 750 units. Nordgold Management LLC funded a new one-story building in Tyanya village, which now houses a school, kindergarten, and shooting range. TYUNGD JSC will construct an educational building for the Little Academy of Sciences in Chapaevo. YATEK PJSC plans a multifunctional centre, skate park, and recreational alley in Kysyl-Syr, Vilyuysky District. Elgaugol LLC allocates 150 million rubles yearly, splitting 75 million each between Neryungri District and wider regional projects. Infrastructure upgrades include Prognoz-Serebro LLC's new bridge over the Tompo River and Sakhaneftegaz LLC's fibre-optic line connecting Lensk and Olekminsk. YVGK JSC and Polymetal JSC also maintain a 577-kilometre stretch of the Kolyma–Nedzhadinskoye road in Tomponsky District. Resource companies contribute roughly 60% of Yakutia's gross regional product and a significant portion of its tax revenue. Their investments directly support healthcare, education, culture, and sports.

The combined efforts of these firms have led to new schools, housing, roads, and digital infrastructure in Yakutia. With ongoing projects and annual funding commitments, the region's social and economic development continues to rely heavily on its resource sector. The initiatives reflect a long-term strategy to improve living standards across the republic.
