WongPartnership Expands Malaysian Legal Network with Cheang & Ariff Alliance

WongPartnership's regional legal network, WPG, has expanded its presence in Malaysia by adding Cheang & Ariff as its second member firm. This move strengthens the network's ability to offer cross-border advisory services between Singapore and Malaysia. The partnership aims to capitalise on Malaysia's upcoming 2025 ASEAN chairmanship and the full implementation of the RCEP trade agreement.

Founded in 1986, Cheang & Ariff brings deep expertise in dispute resolution, corporate law, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property. The firm employs over 55 lawyers, including 24 partners, bolstering WPG's capabilities in these areas.

The addition of Cheang & Ariff creates a dual-firm alliance in Malaysia, working alongside existing member Foong & Partners. Together, they will provide clients with enhanced local insight and smoother cross-border legal advice.

Ng Wai King, chairman and senior partner of WongPartnership, highlighted the benefits of this expansion. He noted that the collaboration will improve services in corporate, financial, and dispute resolution matters. The partnership also leverages Malaysia's role in advancing regional trade integration through its 2025 ASEAN chairmanship and the RCEP agreement's full implementation in 2022, which has already simplified tariff reductions, supply chain optimisation, and investment flows across ASEAN markets.

With Cheang & Ariff now part of WPG, the network's reach in Malaysia has doubled. Clients will gain access to broader expertise and more efficient cross-border legal support. The move aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen regional trade and investment ties within ASEAN.
