Wall Street Giants Bet Big on Ethereum's AI and Blockchain Future
Ethereum is gaining serious attention from major financial players as its role in the digital economy grows. BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, now views it as one of only two cryptocurrencies with lasting institutional value. Meanwhile, a planned upgrade called Glamsterdam could further boost the network's capabilities by mid-2026.
The shift comes as Ethereum's price shows signs of recovery, with trading volumes hitting their highest since mid-2022. Recent moves by Wall Street firms suggest a broader push to integrate blockchain technology into AI-driven financial systems.
A closed-door Ethereum forum in New York recently drew executives from BlackRock, JPMorgan, Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, and Nasdaq. Together, these firms oversee over $250 trillion in assets. The discussions focused on Ethereum's potential as a foundational layer for AI and machine-based economies.
BlackRock now describes cryptocurrencies like Ethereum as *native digital money*, essential to an AI-powered financial future. The firm believes most other tokens lack staying power, singling out Ethereum and Bitcoin as the only assets with long-term relevance. Their confidence is tied to real-world use cases, particularly in AI applications. On the technical side, Ethereum's upcoming *Glamsterdam* hard fork—expected in early 2026—aims to increase the gas limit, allow parallel transaction processing, and integrate proposer-builder separation into the protocol. However, its success depends on rigorous testnet trials before full deployment. Market activity reflects renewed interest. ETH's net taker volume spiked to $133 million, the highest since July 2022, signalling strong buying pressure after months of declines. Despite this, the token still trades around $2,160, about 28% below its January peak. The Ethereum Foundation frames the network as a *trust layer* for autonomous AI agents. This positioning aligns with BlackRock's view that cryptocurrencies are entering a more mature phase, driven by practical utility rather than speculation.
Ethereum's growing institutional backing and planned upgrades suggest a pivotal moment for the network. The involvement of financial giants and rising trading volumes point to broader adoption. If the Glamsterdam hard fork succeeds, it could further solidify Ethereum's role in both blockchain and AI-driven systems.
