VTB and Russian Railways unite to modernize transport payments with digital ruble

VTB and Russian Railways (RZD) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2026. The deal aims to develop digital payment solutions and strengthen financial technology in Russia’s transport sector. The agreement was formally signed by VTB Deputy President Vitaly Sergeichuk and RZD First Deputy CEO Vadim Mikhailov. Both sides will focus on integrating domestic financial technologies, including the digital ruble.

Key areas of collaboration include expanding biometric payment solutions. The partnership also prioritises linking payment services with Russia’s National Payment Card System. The deal reflects a broader push to modernise financial infrastructure within the country’s transport networks.

The partnership will see VTB and RZD work together on digital payment advancements. Biometric solutions and the digital ruble will play central roles in the initiative. The agreement marks a step toward greater financial integration in Russia’s railway system.
