Vietnamese farmers embrace digital sales to boost Tết plant trade

Farmers across Vietnam are turning to digital platforms to sell ornamental plants and fruit trees ahead of the Tết holiday. By using Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, they have expanded their reach beyond traditional seasonal markets. This shift has helped them secure orders from customers nationwide while cutting costs and building trust.

For years, ornamental plant sales in Vietnam peaked during the Tết season, with farmers relying on direct sales at local markets. But now, many are embracing online tools to connect with buyers year-round.

Nguyễn Thị Thúy An, owner of the Anna Picasso shop, has spent the last five to seven years building a loyal customer base through social media. Since January, her business has been packaging and shipping seedlings across the country. She also shares plant care advice online, further engaging her audience. Nguyễn Văn Phước Em, who runs the Thiên ä apricot farm, uses TikTok livestreams and virtual marketplaces to take orders from multiple provinces. Meanwhile, Đỗ Minh Trọng, owner of Mai Vàng 9999 farms, faced challenges as consumer tastes changed. Instead of depending only on seasonal *Tết* shoppers, he focused on growing his online presence to attract steady customers. The move to digital platforms has removed middlemen, lowering prices and ensuring farmers receive fairer profits. Direct interaction with buyers has also strengthened confidence in product quality.

By adopting online sales, Vietnamese farmers are no longer limited to seasonal demand. Their efforts have opened up new markets, reduced costs, and created more stable income streams. The shift to digital commerce is proving beneficial as the Tết holiday approaches.
