Victorian TAFEs see stark divides in 2025 international revenue growth

The latest annual reports for Victorian TAFEs in 2025 reveal contrasting fortunes in international fee-for-service revenue. While some institutions saw sharp declines, others recorded strong growth. The figures come as the Federal Government tightens rules for private education providers.

Several TAFEs experienced significant drops in onshore international earnings. Gordon Institute of TAFE suffered the steepest fall, with revenue plunging 48% compared to the previous year. Holmesglen also saw a 16% decline, while William Angliss Institute reported a 17% reduction.

In contrast, a number of institutions posted impressive gains. Box Hill Institute led the way, achieving a 76% surge to reach $7.6 million. Chisholm Institute followed with a 56% increase, bringing its total to $3.1 million. Melbourne Polytechnic also grew its international revenue by 26%, hitting $16 million. Bendigo Kangan Institute maintained its position as the top earner in offshore revenue, holding steady at $8.1 million. These results arrive alongside a Federal Government decision to suspend new CRICOS applications from private VET and ELICOS providers for 12 months. Public TAFEs, however, remain unaffected by the restriction.

The 2025 reports highlight a divided landscape for Victorian TAFEs in international education. Some providers expanded their revenue significantly, while others faced notable setbacks. The Federal Government’s suspension on private providers adds further uncertainty to the sector’s outlook.
