vHive Revolutionizes Animal Health Through Data and Collaboration

A new research hub called vHive is driving innovation in animal health through data and collaboration. The initiative brings together the University of Surrey and Zoetis, the world’s largest animal health company. Its mission is to turn research into practical solutions for both livestock and pets. vHive was launched to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world applications. Its core focus lies in data analytics, translational research, and supporting start-ups. By combining expertise from academia and industry, the hub tackles challenges like chronic diseases, immunotherapies, and AI-driven diagnostics.

The partnership has already made strides in veterinary science. Published studies include work on chronic kidney disease in cats and dogs. To further research, vHive is also building a Biobank, storing animal biological samples and clinical data for future investigations. Beyond research, vHive fosters entrepreneurship through its Incubator—the first of its kind for livestock and companion animal health. Since opening in 2023, the programme has supported 24 early-stage companies. These start-ups benefit from guidance by 14 specialist mentors and a network of over 70 organisations. The hub also hosts events to discuss pressing issues in animal health. These gatherings encourage knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving among researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers.

vHive’s work spans research, start-up growth, and industry partnerships. Its Biobank, published studies, and Incubator programme are already shaping the future of animal health. The initiative aims to keep expanding its impact through data-driven innovation and cross-sector collaboration.
