Traton Secures €850 Million in Green Bonds to Electrify Trucks and Buses
The Traton Group has successfully raised €850 million through its first green bond and loan. The funding will accelerate the shift from diesel to battery-electric commercial vehicles. Investors showed strong demand, oversubscribing the bond by more than five times its value. The green bond totals €500 million, featuring a 5.5-year term and a fixed interest rate of 3.875%. Alongside this, the company secured a €350 million bilateral green loan. Both instruments align with the International Capital Market Association’s Green Bond Principles, specifically under the 'Clean Transportation' category.
The proceeds will finance projects that replace diesel-powered trucks and buses with electric alternatives. S&P Global Ratings awarded the company’s Green Finance Framework a 'Dark Green' rating, its highest sustainability classification. Traton plans to release a detailed report on how the funds are used and their environmental impact. This update will arrive within 12 months of issuing the instruments.
The €850 million raised will directly support the production of zero-emission commercial vehicles. The oversubscribed bond highlights investor confidence in Traton’s sustainability strategy. A progress report on the funded projects is expected by next year.
