Stuff Group to close Petone printing press by 2027, shifting jobs south

Stuff Group has announced plans to close its Petone printing press by 2027. The move will shift all print operations to Christchurch, cutting costs and streamlining workflows. Owner Sinead Boucher has pushed for consolidation since acquiring the company in 2020. The Petone site was purchased from Australia's Nine Media by new owners in November. Its lease remains active for another year, giving Stuff Group time to manage the transition. Over the coming months, the company will consult with the 30 employees affected by the closure.

Stuff Group has stated it will explore redeployment options within the business, including roles at the Christchurch site. However, the shutdown will still result in job losses for the Petone team. The decision aligns with Boucher's long-term strategy to centralise operations after her $1 takeover in 2020. The Christchurch facility is expected to handle all future print work. The shift aims to reduce expenses and improve efficiency across the company's production lines.

The Petone press will cease operations in 2027, with print functions moving entirely to Christchurch. Employees will enter consultations shortly, while Stuff Group assesses internal relocation options. The closure marks a key step in the company's consolidation plan under Boucher's leadership.
