Strategy's $7B Preferred Stock Move Reshapes the US Market in 2025

Strategy, a financial firm with a strong presence in preferred stocks, made major moves in 2025. The company issued $7 billion in preferred shares—accounting for a third of the entire US stock market for such securities. At the same time, it set up a $2.25 billion reserve to steady its preferred stock prices amid market swings.

One of its key offerings, STRC, stands out for its high daily trading volume and flexible dividend structure.

In 2025, Strategy reshaped the US stock market. The firm issued $7 billion in preferred shares, making up 33% of the country's total issuance for the year. Alongside this, it raised $16.3 billion in common equity—6% of all US common stock issuance.

To protect investors, Strategy created a $2.25 billion reserve. This fund helped stabilise its preferred stocks near their face value, even as Bitcoin prices fluctuated sharply. The move also eased concerns about financial stress, leading to narrower yield spreads across its preferred shares.

Among its offerings, STRC—a perpetual, non-convertible preferred stock—trades $150 million daily, far more liquid than most preferred shares. Its dividend rate adjusts monthly and currently sits at 11.25%. Meanwhile, STRF, the firm's senior-most preferred stock, includes extra protections like dividend step-ups and a board seat for holders. In contrast, STRD, a junior preferred stock, pays a fixed 10% dividend but lacks the same safeguards.

The gap between STRF and STRD yields—ranging from 2% to 5%—now acts as a measure of investor confidence in Strategy's securities. Tighter spreads suggest reduced fear of financial instability within the company's preferred stock complex.

Strategy's actions in 2025 have reshaped its preferred stock market position. The $2.25 billion reserve cut volatility, while its massive issuance set new benchmarks in the sector. With STRC's high liquidity and STRF's strong protections, the firm's preferred shares now offer investors both stability and choice. The yield spread between its stocks also provides a clear signal of market sentiment.
