Last Starcar Branches in Hamburg to Close - Starcar's final collapse leaves 170 jobless as branches shut for good

Starcar, the German car rental company, has confirmed its complete shutdown after failing to secure a buyer. The insolvency administrator announced the final closure on 23 January, marking the end of the business. All remaining branches will close within a week, leaving around 170 employees without jobs.

The company first filed for insolvency in October 2022. By the end of December that year, regular operations had stopped. Despite efforts to find a new owner, no takeover offers materialised.

At its peak, Starcar operated 36 branches nationwide. Now, only three locations in Hamburg remain open: City-South in the Hamm district, Langenhorn, and Altona. These will permanently close on 28 February.

The insolvency administrator's decision follows months of financial struggles. With no viable rescue plan, liquidation became the only option. Employees were informed of the wind-down shortly after the announcement.

The final closure affects all remaining staff and ends Starcar's presence in Germany. The last branches will shut their doors by the end of February. The company's assets will now be liquidated as part of the insolvency process.
