Starbird Plans Massive Texas Expansion with 36 New Locations by 2027
Starbird, a San Francisco-based chicken chain, has agreed to a major expansion in Texas. The deal with Mac Haik Restaurant Group will bring 36 new locations to Houston, Austin, and San Antonio starting in 2027. This marks the largest development agreement in Starbird's history since its launch in 2016.
Founded by Aaron Noveshen in 2016, Starbird has grown to 19 outlets, mostly in California. The chain, which calls itself 'premium fast food,' opened its first franchised site in Denver last year. Now, it plans further growth in Seattle and Chicago alongside its Texas push.
Mac Haik Restaurant Group, part of the investment firm Mac Haik Enterprises, operates a range of businesses including car dealerships, hotels, and outdoor media. The group also manages First Watch locations in Houston and has backed fast-casual brands like Slapfish, ChopShop, and Dué Cucina. Two of its own concepts, Kirkwood and Flourish Daily Fare, are currently in development. Dan Anfinson, chief operating officer of Mac Haik Restaurant Group, highlighted Starbird's culinary standards and operational efficiency as key reasons for the partnership. Greg Levin, recently appointed CEO of Starbird, sees Texas as a vital market for the brand's expansion. While Texas presents challenges, Mac Haik's experience and local presence provide a strong foundation for the rollout.
The 36-unit deal will introduce Starbird to Texas from 2027. The chain's first franchised location opened in Denver last year, and further expansions are planned in other major cities. Mac Haik's established network and operational expertise are expected to support Starbird's growth in the region.
