South Africa's Cleantech Challenge 2026 Seeks Bold Innovators by April 21

Applications for the National Cleantech Innovation Challenge (NCIC) 2026 are now open. The programme forms part of South Africa's involvement in the UN's Global Cleantech Innovation Programme. Innovators have until 21 April to submit their entries for a chance to address key environmental and technological gaps across the country.

NCIC 2026 features nine distinct provincial challenges, each targeting a specific issue. These range from waste-to-value solutions to renewable energy generation. The problems were selected based on market or technology gaps that currently slow down local development.

The initiative aims to support practical, ready-to-test solutions from South African entrepreneurs. Since 2014, over 800 ventures have entered the programme's pipeline. Hundreds of these have gone on to receive structured acceleration and further support after the initial phase.

Each province has been assigned its own challenge, ensuring solutions are tailored to regional needs. The focus remains on actionable projects that can move quickly from testing to market implementation.

The deadline for NCIC 2026 applications is set for 21 April. Successful participants will contribute to solving pressing provincial challenges while gaining access to acceleration support. The programme continues to build on its track record of fostering local innovation in cleantech.
