Saudi Arabia lures Hollywood with 60% cash rebate for filmmakers

Saudi Arabia has boosted its cash-rebate program for filmmakers, raising the incentive from 40% to 60%. The updated scheme aims to streamline funding and attract major productions to the country. One of the first high-profile projects, Chasing Red, was entirely filmed in the region—marking a milestone for the local industry. The Hollywood film Chasing Red became the first to shoot entirely in Saudi Arabia, with AlUla serving as its primary location. This production highlights the country’s growing appeal as a filming destination.

The Saudi Film Commission has revamped its rebate program to support every stage of production. A new guide outlines financial audit and disbursement procedures, ensuring faster and more transparent payments. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Qahtani, CEO of the commission, stated the goal is to make the Saudi incentive the most efficient in the industry. Rasha AlEmam, CEO of Yellow Camel Studios, described the updated rebate as user-friendly. The changes include improved disbursement processes, reducing delays for production companies. The program also seeks to build a full ecosystem for filmmakers while drawing high-quality investments.

The increased rebate and streamlined procedures position Saudi Arabia as a competitive filming hub. With Chasing Red setting a precedent, the country expects more international projects to follow. The Saudi Film Commission continues to refine its support system for both local and global productions.
