Russia's Social Fund backs Kolyma employers for safer workplaces

The Magadan regional branch of Russia’s Social Fund is offering financial support to employers for workplace safety improvements. Since January, nearly 50 insured employers in Kolyma have applied for funding to prevent injuries and occupational diseases. The scheme allows businesses to reclaim part of their spending on protective measures and medical checks. Employers must first cover the costs themselves before requesting reimbursement. Eligible expenses include personal protective equipment, mandatory medical exams, and spa treatments for workers in hazardous roles. Additional approved items are safety devices, driver fatigue monitoring systems, and first-aid kits.

To qualify, organisations must have no outstanding payments, penalties, or fines. Applications for approval and funding plans must be submitted by August 1. Once measures are in place, employers have until November 15 to apply for reimbursement. The fund reviews applications within 15 business days of receiving all required documents. Successful claims can recover up to 20% of the employer’s insurance contributions from the previous year. These contributions cover mandatory accident and occupational disease insurance.

The initiative aims to reduce workplace risks by partially refunding safety investments. Employers meeting the criteria can recover a portion of their spending on approved measures. The deadline for submitting funding plans is August 1, with reimbursement claims due by mid-November.
