Russia's AI revolution unfolds in new documentary and regional tech surges

A new four-part documentary series, AI of the Future, has completed filming and will premiere in Moscow this May. The project explores major advancements in artificial intelligence, covering fields like medicine, ecology, education, and national security. Over 100 experts contributed insights during production, supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.

Meanwhile, Sverdlovsk Region has been actively integrating AI under Governor Denis Pasler's leadership. The region's efforts align with Russia's Data Economy national project, introducing digital solutions across public services and healthcare. The AI of the Future series examines cutting-edge AI applications, from smart cities to digital education platforms. It also highlights scientific centres training the next generation of tech talent in Russia. While the documentary features innovations nationwide, none of the universities or research hubs mentioned are based in Sverdlovsk Region.

In Sverdlovsk, AI adoption has already made strides. Government agencies now use an analytics platform with more than 40 services, including a geodata module for decision-making. Public service centres have also rolled out an AI chatbot, which has handled 42% of citizen inquiries since November.

The region's healthcare sector has implemented 11 AI-driven tools. These include systems for medical image analysis and digital patient profiles, improving diagnostics and treatment planning. The documentary's May premiere will showcase Russia's AI progress on a national stage. Sverdlovsk Region's own initiatives—from smart chatbots to healthcare analytics—demonstrate how local governments are applying these technologies. The projects reflect broader goals under the Data Economy programme, with further expansions expected in key sectors.
