£800M MESH energy hub gains national backing on Lancashire coast

The MESH project, an £800 million offshore energy hub on the Lancashire coast, has been labelled a nationally significant development by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. Led by EnergyPathways, the scheme aims to blend long-duration energy storage, gas, and green hydrogen production in one integrated facility. As CFO of EnergyPathways, Max Williams has secured a financing deal with a global institutional investor to speed up pre-FEED work on MESH. His focus remains on raising capital while keeping stakeholders aligned ahead of a Final Investment Decision. The project’s design emphasises minimal reliance on government subsidies, with job creation and regional engagement at its core—including partnerships with Team Barrow and cross-party parliamentary backing.

Williams highlights the importance of a strong, well-coordinated team for MESH’s success, stressing clear communication across disciplines. He also advocates for full transparency with investors and stakeholders, a principle he applies in his own role. Under his leadership, EnergyPathways has introduced AI into its accounting processes and plans to embed an AI-driven energy management system into MESH’s operational design. The project’s current phase involves detailed planning and securing further investment. Williams’ ability to maintain reliable equity shareholder support has been key to its progress so far.

With national recognition and fresh funding in place, MESH moves closer to its next development stage. The facility’s integrated approach to energy storage, gas, and green hydrogen could reshape the region’s industrial landscape. Its success will depend on continued investment, stakeholder collaboration, and the adoption of advanced technologies like AI.
