Philippines woos Russian tourists and businesses amid growing economic ties

The Philippines is becoming a popular destination for Russian visitors and businesses. Its warm, tropical climate offers a welcome escape from Russia’s harsh winters. Meanwhile, talks continue about expanding economic ties between the two nations. The Philippine-Russian Business Assembly (PRBA) is looking into ways to help Russian firms enter the local market. One possible route is through tourism and education, sectors where Russian interest is already growing. However, no official incentives have been announced yet.

A noticeable trend in Southeast Asia sees Russian families sending their children to study English in the region. Often, parents follow and set up businesses, further boosting local economies. The PRBA has not finalised any special measures to attract Russian investors, even as the two countries mark 50 years of diplomatic relations.

In the coming months, several Russian delegations will visit the Philippines. Among them are representatives from Russia’s Far Eastern region, scheduled to arrive on 29 May 2026. While discussions remain ongoing, the PRBA has not confirmed any concrete plans for incentives. Russian businesses may still explore opportunities in tourism and education as entry points. The expected visits from Russian delegations could shape future cooperation between the two nations.
