Otto Group appoints Dr. Philipp André to lead brands and retail strategy

The Otto Group has announced a leadership change in its Executive Board. Dr. Philipp André will take over as the new Board Member for Brands and Retail, replacing Sergio Bucher. Bucher, who joined the company in 2020, will transition to an advisory role after driving significant growth in digitalisation and profitability.

Dr. Philipp André brings a strong background in digital commerce and retail strategy. He currently serves as Chief Commercial Officer at the Douglas Group, a position he has held since January 2023. Before that, he spent over seven years at Tchibo, most recently as Managing Director for Digital and Marketing. Earlier in his career, he founded and led the online fashion platform Department47 and began his professional journey at McKinsey & Company. His academic credentials include a degree in mechanical engineering and a doctorate in marketing.

Under Sergio Bucher's leadership, the Otto Group expanded its digital focus, boosting Crate & Barrel's U.S. online news by 25% between 2022 and 2024. He also led Manufactum's expansion into new European markets, increasing revenue by 15% by 2025. AI-driven supply chain improvements at Otto International cut costs by 10% in 2023, while sustainability initiatives raised the group's EBITDA margin from 4.2% in 2020 to 6.8% in 2025.

In his new role, Dr. André will oversee Crate & Barrel, Manufactum, Frankonia, and Freemans & Grattan as Chairman of their Advisory Board. He will also manage sourcing operations for Otto International. Benjamin Otto highlighted André's experience as key to advancing the company's strategy, while Michael Otto thanked Bucher for his contributions and welcomed his continued guidance on the Supervisory Board and as an advisor to Bonprix.

The transition marks a new phase for the Otto Group, with Dr. Philipp André taking charge of major retail news. His appointment follows a period of digital growth and cost efficiency under Bucher's leadership. The company expects André's expertise to further strengthen its brand and retail operations in the coming years.
