Orejo Plant Expansion Boosts Europe's Sustainable Building Material Supply

The Orejo plant in Spain has completed a major expansion, boosting its ability to supply high-performance building materials across Europe. Construction began in May 2021 after investment approval in late 2020, transforming the site into a cutting-edge production facility. The expanded Orejo plant now produces a full range of fermacell gypsum fibre screed elements, gypsum fibreboards, and prefabrication solutions. Demand for sustainable, resource-efficient construction materials has risen sharply in Europe, and the new facility strengthens James Hardie Europe's ability to meet this need.

Employee numbers have already grown from around 75 in 2021 to 121 by January 2026. Once both production lines run at full capacity with five shifts, the workforce could reach up to 160. The site's efficiency, sustainability standards, and product quality have set new industry benchmarks.

Christian Claus, CEO & President of James Hardie Europe, highlighted the investment as proof of the company's long-term commitment to Europe. The expansion ensures a steady supply of premium fermacell floor and wall systems, supporting sustainable construction projects across the continent. The Orejo plant's upgraded capacity positions James Hardie Europe to better serve the European market. With increased production and a growing team, the facility will play a key role in delivering high-performance, eco-friendly building solutions in the years ahead.
