Orange Sierra Leone turns employees into shareholders with new scheme

Orange Sierra Leone has handed out official share certificates to employees as part of its new Employee Shareholding Scheme. The move gives staff a direct stake in the company's future and a share of its profits. Management described the initiative as a key step in fostering a culture of shared ownership and success.

The scheme was launched under outgoing CEO Sekou Amadu Bah, who championed employee empowerment during his tenure. It allows workers to become shareholders, gaining both ownership rights and a claim on company profits.

Agnes Songa, a long-serving employee, called the opportunity 'a dream come true'. The company formally issued certificates to all eligible staff, marking their transition from employees to partial owners. In a statement, Orange Sierra Leone thanked its shareholders and Board of Directors for backing the programme. The initiative aligns with Bah's vision of inclusion and long-term employee engagement within the business.

The Employee Shareholding Scheme now gives workers a financial interest in the company's performance. Official certificates have been distributed, confirming their status as shareholders. The programme reflects a broader push to tie employee success directly to that of the organisation.
