Optibus Secures Volvo Investment to Revolutionize Public Transport with AI
Optibus, a cloud-based AI platform for public transport, has secured investment from Volvo Group Venture Capital. The company, valued at US$1.3bn (£1.85bn), helps cities and bus operators modernise their fleets. Its technology supports electrification and improves passenger services worldwide. Optibus uses AI, optimisation algorithms, and cloud computing to streamline public transport planning. The platform assists with scheduling, fleet management, and the shift toward electric buses. In the past year, the number of cities using its software has more than doubled, now serving 1,000 cities across 26 countries.
Volvo's investment highlights the growing importance of digital tools in transport. The company sees advanced software as essential for cities and operators adapting to market demands. Currently, only 20% of European city buses and 2% in the USA run on electricity, showing room for expansion. Amos Haggiag, CEO and co-founder of Optibus, welcomed Volvo's backing. The partnership aims to speed up bus electrification and digital transformation. Volvo believes these steps are vital for building sustainable public transport networks.
The deal strengthens Optibus's position in the transport tech sector. With Volvo's support, the company will push further into electrification and digital planning. More cities are expected to adopt its solutions as demand for cleaner, smarter buses grows.
