Omsk Region sees record business starts but rising closures in 2025

Business activity in Omsk Region showed mixed trends in 2025. While new registrations climbed past 10,000, closures also rose sharply. Official figures highlight both growth in startups and struggles in retail, particularly online sales.

The number of newly registered individual entrepreneurs in Omsk Region exceeded 10,000 in 2025. This marked a clear increase from the previous year. Trade remained the dominant sector for new business registrations.

However, closures also surged during the same period. A total of 8,133 businesses shut down in 2025, compared to 7,648 in 2024. Retail trade suffered the most, with 3,313 individual entrepreneurs ceasing operations. Within that figure, 960 closures came from mail-order or online retail alone. As of March 2026, no public data exists on new registrations for 2026. Without official Rosstat statistics, comparisons to previous years—including 2021 to 2025—remain impossible.

The region saw over 10,000 new entrepreneurs in 2025, yet closures also rose significantly. Retail, especially online trade, faced the highest shutdown rates. Updated figures for 2026 will be needed to assess whether these trends continue.
