Nuremberg's Excelsior Hotel reopens after a 3.5-year transformation under Radisson

The Excelsior Hotel Nuremberg Fürth has reopened its doors after a 3.5-year closure. The relaunch on 16 March 2026 marks a turning point for the city, bringing an end to years of uncertainty about the building's future. Now under the Radisson Individuals brand, the hotel is set to play a key role in the local hospitality scene.

The historic hotel first shut in late 2022, leaving its fate unclear. Over the following years, various plans for the site emerged, but none came to fruition. The GCH Hotel Group eventually took over, committing to a full renovation while preserving the building's character.

Renovations were complex due to the hotel's unique architecture. Crews modernised all 104 rooms and installed a new climate system to keep indoor temperatures steady at 23°C year-round. The design now mixes restored vintage furniture with sustainable contemporary pieces.

The hotel's conference spaces can host up to 400 guests, catering to business travellers and events. During the soft opening, bookings surged, with 80% of rooms already reserved for upcoming trade fairs. Management also plans to strengthen local ties by partnering with Fürth artists and expanding the spa facilities.

The Excelsior now accounts for about 8% of Fürth's hospitality market. Its reopening stabilises a major city landmark and introduces modern amenities alongside historic charm. With strong early demand, the hotel is poised to become a central hub for both business and leisure visitors.
