NFR freight loading jumps 8.6% in April 2026 on coal and cement boom

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reported a significant rise in freight loading for April 2026. The total reached 0.972 million tonnes (MT), marking an 8.6% increase compared to the same month last year. Several key commodities saw sharp growth, reflecting stronger economic activity in the region.

Coal loading surged by 141.7% over April 2025, becoming one of the biggest contributors to the rise. Cement followed with an even more dramatic jump, recording a 329.0% increase in the same period. These gains highlight expanding industrial demand across the Northeast and nearby areas.

Other commodities also performed well. Dolomite loading grew by 20.7%, while miscellaneous goods under the 'Others' category saw a massive 190.0% rise. The railway attributed this growth to improved operational efficiency and a more robust regional supply chain network. NFR has emphasised technological upgrades to maintain reliable freight services. Officials stated that these efforts would help sustain growth in the coming months, ensuring steady revenue for the railway.

The sharp increases in coal, cement, and other freight categories have boosted NFR’s earnings. The railway’s focus on efficiency and technology aims to keep momentum strong. This growth also signals rising industrial and economic activity in the Northeast region.
