NatWest's Accelerator smashes growth targets, now aiming for 50,000 businesses by 2026

NatWest has expanded its Accelerator programme at a rapid pace, far exceeding its original growth targets. The initiative, designed to support start-ups and high-growth businesses, now aims to reach 50,000 members by 2026—five times its initial 2025 goal. Early results show strong success, with participating businesses achieving significantly higher survival and revenue growth rates than average.

The Accelerator community has grown faster than expected. In 2025, membership hit around 12,000, surpassing the bank's original ambition of 10,000. This surge in just one year matched the total number supported over the previous decade.

Businesses completing the programme see clear benefits. Their turnover grew by 104% year on year, compared to 20% in a control group. Survival rates also improved, with nine out of ten still trading after three years—more than double the wider average.

The programme offers structured support through 12 hubs across the UK and a dedicated app. Entrepreneurs gain access to expert mentors, investors, and peer networks. Pitch events and forums provide further opportunities to secure funding and build connections.

NatWest is now extending its reach into universities. By early 2026, it had partnered with 12 institutions, including the universities of Manchester, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. Plans are in place to add more hubs in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, and the Southwest over the coming years.

This expansion aligns with NatWest's broader Growing Together plan. The strategy focuses on strengthening regional economies, supporting mid-sized firms, and fostering innovation across the UK.

NatWest's Accelerator programme continues to scale, with university partnerships and regional hubs driving further growth. The bank's revised target of 50,000 members by 2026 reflects its confidence in the initiative's impact. Businesses involved have already shown stronger financial performance and higher survival rates than their peers.
