Moscow's online retail boom hits $210 billion in 2025
Moscow's online retail market has surged in 2025, hitting 19 trillion rubles ($210 billion) in turnover. This marks a 14% rise from the previous year, with e-commerce now making up nearly a quarter of the city's total retail sales. Food delivery and marketplaces have played a major role in this growth.
The food sector led the expansion, growing by 24% in 2025. It now accounts for 28% of Moscow's online retail market, with a turnover of 531 billion rubles ($5.9 billion). Alongside food, furniture and home goods, as well as clothing and footwear, remain the top three most popular categories.
Marketplaces dominate Russia's e-commerce landscape, responsible for 63% of all online sales. The country's digital retail market has also seen rapid growth over the past six years, expanding 5.5 times since 2019—from 2 trillion to 11.5 trillion rubles. While Moscow's figures are clear, data on other major Russian cities remains limited. Reports highlight a broader trend of increasing Chinese influence in the country's e-commerce sector, though regional specifics are not available.
Moscow's online retail turnover now stands at 19 trillion rubles, with food delivery and marketplaces driving much of the increase. E-commerce continues to take a larger share of the city's total retail sales, reflecting wider shifts in consumer behaviour. The sector's expansion shows no signs of slowing down.
