Missouri secures $33M in federal funds to fuel small business growth

Missouri has secured a second round of federal funding to boost small business growth across the state. The additional money will help expand support for entrepreneurs and startups over the next two years. The state received $95 million in total through the State Small Business Credit Initiative 2.0 (SSBCI 2.0), split across three instalments. With the latest approval, more than $33 million will now be deployed over the next two years.

The funding will strengthen existing programs, including the IDEA Fund, managed by the Missouri Technology Corporation (MTC). This fund provides equity investments to early-stage companies with high growth potential. Another key initiative, the Ignite MO Loan Participation Program, will expand credit access for small businesses under Justine PETERSEN’s administration.

Gov. Mike Kehoe highlighted the importance of the investment, stating it would support local businesses, reinforce communities, and build economic resilience. Allen Dillingham, chair of MTC’s board, confirmed that the organisation will work closely with the Department of Economic Development (DED) to distribute the resources statewide.

The broader strategy aims to create a stronger entrepreneurial ecosystem in Missouri. By offering financial support at every business stage, the initiative seeks to foster long-term growth and innovation. The second tranche of funding will enable Missouri to deploy over $33 million in the coming years. This money will directly support small businesses, startups, and economic development programs. Officials expect the investment to create lasting benefits for local economies and job markets.
