Mangystau's Clean Kazakhstan campaign transforms region with 20,000 volunteers

Mangystau Region has seen a major environmental push in early 2026. Over 20,000 people took part in the Clean Kazakhstan campaign, aiming to improve local cleanliness and green spaces. Officials described the effort as a step toward building a new ecological culture in the area. The campaign kicked off in April with large-scale cleanups across the region. Around 12,000 residents joined the Green Future event, planting nearly 5,000 trees. Municipal teams also cleared nearly 30 tons of waste from the road leading to 'Warm Beach'.

Sacred and historical sites received special attention. Volunteers cleaned the underground Beket-Ata Mosque and the Esimbet-Ata necropolis, removing rubbish and restoring their surroundings. In Zhanaozen, 745 new saplings and 43,800 plants—including 6,320 perennial rose bushes—were added to public areas. Aktau saw around 400 trees planted in spring, with plans to expand that number to over 2,000 by year’s end. Local authorities have also introduced regular inspections and underwater cleanup operations to maintain progress. Governor Nurdaulet Kylbayev highlighted the campaign’s role in promoting environmental responsibility. He noted that the visible improvements in cities and villages reflect the community’s growing commitment to sustainability.

The Clean Kazakhstan campaign has already led to cleaner streets, restored landmarks, and thousands of new trees. With ongoing inspections and further planting planned, the region expects lasting changes to its environment. The effort marks one of the largest collective actions for sustainability in Mangystau’s recent history.
