Maksu Secures EU Payment License to Transform European Transactions
Maksu, an online payments provider, has secured a Payment Institution License from the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA). The approval allows the company to offer regulated payment services across all EU markets without needing further local authorisations.
The licence marks a significant move for the firm, which aims to reshape Europe’s payment landscape with more transparent and merchant-focused solutions. The licensing process involved a thorough review by the FMA. Regulators assessed Maksu’s governance, financial stability, security measures, risk management, and operational processes. The company also passed the required 'Fit & Proper' checks, proving its compliance with European standards.
With the licence now in place, Maksu can provide a full range of in-Europe payment services. These include card processing, payment initiation, and newer digital payment methods. The firm’s goal is to simplify transactions, making them more secure, predictable, and efficient for businesses of all sizes.
Maksu will focus on micro, small, and medium-sized merchants, offering them enterprise-level payment infrastructure. By removing unnecessary complexity, the company hopes to build trust and deliver scalable solutions tailored to European markets.
Vlado Galevski, CEO of Maksu, described the licence as a major milestone. He emphasised its importance in advancing a more resilient and transparent payment ecosystem across Europe. The licence enables Maksu to operate seamlessly across the EU, supporting merchants with compliant and advanced payment tools. Businesses will now have access to secure, efficient, and scalable payment services designed for their needs. The move aligns with the company’s broader mission to strengthen trust and reduce friction in European payments.
