MAHE Unveils New Palliative Care Facility with Compassion at Its Core

Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has opened a new clinical facility dedicated to palliative care. The Harish & Bina Shah Foundation (HBSF) Clinical Block, located at the Manipal Hospice and Respite Centre (MHRC), was officially inaugurated by alumnus and foundation chairperson Mr. Harish Shah. The centre aims to provide medical excellence alongside compassionate support for patients and their families. The inauguration ceremony took place with key figures in attendance. Mr. Harish Shah, a long-time supporter of MAHE’s healthcare and education projects, led the event. Dr. Anand Venugopal, Chief Operating Officer of MAHE, and Dr. Seema Rajesh Rao, Director and Consultant at MHRC, were also present. Dr. Rao delivered the Vote of Thanks, marking the close of the proceedings.

The new block strengthens MHRC’s role in advanced medical research. In October 2025, MAHE had already established the ICMR-MAHE Centre for Advanced Research (CAR) at the same location. This initiative received a Rs. 12.84 crore grant from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), further boosting its capabilities. Beyond healthcare, the Harish & Bina Shah Foundation has contributed to education. Through the Edu Empower Scholarship, 19 students were awarded full scholarships for engineering degrees at MAHE’s campuses in Manipal and Bengaluru. MAHE itself is recognised for academic excellence, ranking 3rd in the NIRF and holding the Institution of Eminence status from the Ministry of Education. With over 400 specialisations across its campuses in Manipal, Mangalore, Bengaluru, Jamshedpur, and Dubai, MAHE continues to expand its impact in both education and healthcare.

The HBSF Clinical Block will now serve as a key facility for palliative care, combining expert treatment with emotional support. Its opening follows a series of investments in research and education by MAHE and its partners. The institution’s ongoing projects reflect its commitment to advancing both medical and academic fields.
