Lörrach raises library fees for the first time since 2017

Lörrach is updating its library fees and rules for the first time since 2017. The changes come as the city faces higher costs and expands its services. A vote on the new policy will take place on March 26, 2026, with adjustments set to begin on April 15, 2026.

The revised fees will see annual adult memberships rise from €20 to €25. Discounted rates, previously €10, will increase to €13. Partner and family passes will also go up, climbing from €35 to €45. Despite these changes, children and teenagers will still access the library for free.

Loan rules are being modernised as well. Borrowers will now have clearer deadlines and the option to extend loan periods twice. The wording of the regulations has been updated to reflect current needs. Some media services, previously charged separately, will now be included in the annual fee. The adjustments aim to generate an extra €28,000 per year. This marks the first fee revision in nearly a decade, reflecting both inflation and the library's growing range of offerings.

The city council will finalise the changes in late March, with new rates and rules taking effect in mid-April. The updates will apply to all members, though free access for young users remains unchanged. The additional revenue will help support the library's expanded services.
