Kazakhstan Opens Direct Gateway to Six Middle Eastern Stock Markets

Kazakh investors can now directly access stock markets in six Middle Eastern countries. The Central Securities Depository (KCSD) has opened a custody account with First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), enabling seamless trading in the region. This move aims to strengthen financial ties between Central Asia and the Middle East while cutting costs for local investors. The new account allows Kazakh investors to trade equities, bonds, sukuk, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) across the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Egypt. Previously, such transactions required foreign intermediaries, but direct access now removes this barrier.

Transactions will settle on a T+1 basis, speeding up post-trade processing. Investors can also operate in multiple currencies, including the UAE dirham, Saudi riyal, and Kuwaiti dinar, alongside the dollar, euro, and British pound.

The initiative aligns with KCSD’s broader strategy to establish Kazakhstan as a regional financial and settlement hub. By reducing transaction costs and expanding investment options, the new connectivity encourages portfolio diversification for Kazakh investors. It also positions the country as a bridge between Central Asian and Middle Eastern financial systems. The direct link to Middle Eastern markets opens fresh opportunities for Kazakh investors. With faster settlements and multi-currency support, the new account is set to boost cross-regional capital flows. The move further reinforces Kazakhstan’s role in connecting emerging financial markets.
