Kazakhstan and South Korea Deepen Economic Ties Ahead of Tokayev's Visit

Kazakhstan and South Korea have strengthened economic ties at the 11th meeting of their Joint Commission in Astana. The session, co-chaired by Yersayyn Nagaspayev and Kim Jong-kwan, focused on expanding cooperation in key industries ahead of President Tokayev’s upcoming state visit to South Korea. The two nations explored ways to boost collaboration in mechanical engineering, chemical production, and building materials. Over 700 companies with South Korean investment already operate in Kazakhstan, reflecting strong economic links. Officials also highlighted 46 joint projects currently in progress, valued at $4 billion.

Trade between the countries reached over $3 billion last year. South Korea’s direct investment in Kazakhstan has grown to nearly $8 billion over the past decade. At the meeting’s close, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to friendly relations and signed a formal protocol. The discussions aimed to build momentum before President Tokayev’s visit to South Korea. Participants emphasised the importance of deepening bilateral partnerships in high-priority sectors.

The meeting concluded with agreements to further economic cooperation. The signed protocol sets the stage for continued growth in trade and investment. Both nations will now prepare for President Tokayev’s official visit to South Korea.
