Kazakh wind farm firm reclaims $120K VAT after prosecutor's push

A wind farm construction company in Satpayev has finally recovered overpaid VAT after months of delays. Mezgilder Qushteri LLP had struggled to reclaim the funds, despite repeated requests to tax authorities. The intervention of local prosecutors eventually secured the refund of 55 million tenge. The issue began in July 2025, when Mezgilder Qushteri LLP first applied to the State Revenue Department for a VAT refund. The firm had overpaid taxes on imported equipment but received no resolution. Despite multiple follow-ups, the company remained without the owed money.

The Satpayev Prosecutor’s Office stepped in after identifying the delay. Following a supervisory order, tax officials processed the refund. The company was then reimbursed the full 55 million tenge. This case follows another recent success in Mangistau Region, where prosecutors helped a local plant overcome a severe shortage of raw materials. Both interventions highlight the role of oversight in resolving bureaucratic hurdles for businesses.

The refund resolves a long-standing financial strain for Mezgilder Qushteri LLP. The company can now reinvest the recovered funds into its wind farm projects. Prosecutors’ involvement ensured the process moved forward after months of inaction.
